Klondike Derby 2013

Posted on Mar 25 2013 - 6:32pm

Congratulations to the hearty 13 campers who braved the 310 and 320 nighttime temperatures at the Klondike Derby this past weekend.  Each one has earned their membership into the Penguin Club.  While the previous heat wave melted all of the snow at Camp Emmerson, the lower temperatures at night served as a great camping and cold weather experience.   The program activities kept everyone busy and having fun throughout the day.   Two of the new boys who recently joined the troop completed their first step on their trail to Eagle by earning the rank of Scout.  The third moved on with requirements for Tenderfoot. This was followed by the start of their first Merit Badge, Scouting Heritage.  All of the boys touched the hearts of those who attended the Saturday night campfire when they respectfully retired an American flag from service.   The group honored the Americans who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we are able to live in a free country.   Everyone had a good time and the group is looking forward to the next troop outing at Camp Trask to prepare for camporee.

The Troop is Growing

Posted on Mar 3 2013 - 1:30am

On February 27, a total of 9 Webelos from Pack 673 earned their Arrow of Light award and crossed the bridge into Boy Scouts.  These nine scouts and their families have committed to join our Troop.  We are looking forward to seeing them join in activities beginning at the March 4th Court of Honor.   This makes ten new scouts who have joined the troop in the last month.   We still have a few boys and their families from a couple other packs who are close to deciding where they will go.  Having a growing troop in such tough times is great testament to how the boys are developing the troop.   This is a great time to reflect on how you plan on sharing your Scout skills and Scouting experience with our new scouts.  Part of being a solid citizen and helpful Scout is giving back to help others learn and grow.    Remember we were all new at one time so take a moment and welcome each and every new member into our troop family.  Offer a friendly comment.

Philmont 2013

Posted on Feb 7 2013 - 10:43pm

As you may have heard, a group of Scouts and Scouters from our troop will be going to the Philmont Scout Ranch(PSR)late this Summer. The troop has been awarded space for two treks beginning on July 23rd and running through August 7th at Scoutings premier high adventure ranch in New Mexico. Philmont backpacking is considered the pinnacle of a Scout and Scouters career. Everyone that has gone from our troop and scouting has nothing but excellent memories from their PSR trip. Our application process started two years ago and we were awarded space early last year. It was at that point, we started talking about what PSR has to offer and what it will take to get us there.
